Varicose Vein Treatments in Miami
Common in both men and women, varicose veins can be frustrating to have because of the unsightly appearance. Women have a harder time dealing with varicose veins and spider veins because they usually feel self-conscious when wearing shorts or a bathing suit. The red, blue and purple vessels may sometimes appear as a web on the leg. In some occasions, veins could even develop into large, raised and swollen vessels that protrude from the skin, twisting and turning. Thankfully, our Miami doctors have established a set of protocols and procedures to diminish the look and in many cases completely remove the vein appearance.
Common causes of varicose veins and spider veins, also called telangiectasias, are heredity, occupations involving a lot of standing, hormonal imbalances, and obesity. An estimated 30% to 60% of adults develop varicose veins according to WebMD.
Upon consultation, our doctor or cosmetic specialist will advise you on which treatment is adequate for your veins. In some cases a small laser can be used. In other cases, injections, known as Sclerotherapy, may be the better alternative. Finally, some veins need to be surgically removed through a procedure known as Ambulatory Phlebectomy.

There is a reason why this procedure has been around for 150 years and continues to be the most effective method to combat varicose veins; because it works. Polidocanol is injected into the telangiectasias or varicose vein, and this causes immediate disappearance. Each session of sclerotherapy can cover roughly 7 injection sites and must be done on one leg at a time. Safety to the patient is the primary reason for this protocol. After your injection you will be bandaged and instructed to do light walking for at least 20 minutes. If you require sclerotherapy on your other leg, this can be done a week after your most recent session.
Multiple sessions may be required to get the look and results you desire. Compression socks or stockings may also prevent the development of new veins.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy Miami
Surgery is sometimes required to remove larger, bulging veins, which cannot be eliminated by Sclerotherapy injections or laser. Through a small incision and under local anesthesia, the thick and superficial varicose vein is removed. This procedure is not painful, as you will be under local anesthesia, but converse with the doctor is you have any particular requests.
You can expect bruising and swelling but you will be able to walk after the surgery. Wear compression stockings and follow instructions the doctor gives you. Exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided immediately after the ambulatory phlebectomy. Our Miami office is fully equipped to handle these procedures. The cost can vary depending on the number of veins removed.
